Soul of the Canastra - A national treasure through the eyes of Alessandro Abdala
The Serra da Canastra National Park in Brazil preserves one of the last large areas of native grassland in the country. It’s a last resort for one of the rarest bird species on earth – the Brazilian merganser. It is here that nature photographer Alessandro Abdala has been working for almost 20 years. His work reveals the lives of rare and enigmatic animals in a place that can truly be called a national treasure. This film portraits Alessandro Abdala and his mission to raise awareness about the conservation importance of the Serra da Canastra National Park.
Alpha male with a tramp stamp - the European wool carder bee
The Historical Botanical Garden in Göttingen is home to more than 120 species of wild bees. One if it is the European wool carder bee. Together with Dr. Michael Schwerdtfeger, the curator of the botanical garden and biology student Tim Oettel I have been part of the production of a few episodes of the wonderful Doc Shorts series, including this one about the wool carder bee, a really astonishing bee. Follow a male through a day of defending his two square meter territory against intruders and competitors in order to attract females and mate.
This is just the start. Stay tuned because much much more is coming…
